How much does private dental treatment cost?

That is a very difficult question to answer because every patient has different needs. For example, someone that needs just a dental health review (check up) is going to pay far less than someone who needs a filling in every tooth that they have.

Also, you need to take into account is how dental treatment costs in other ways. Most dentists think that there is a cost in money for a treatment but also a cost in the amount of tooth tissue lost.

So, while the cost of a root canal (to treat an abscess) is more expensive than an extraction at the end of treatment the patient has lost a whole tooth. If you start discussing replacement of the missing tooth with dental implants then the root canal will cost much less in money and tooth tissue!

Why do prices of private dental treatment vary?

Each dental practice is a small business and charges that are made need generate an income that reflects the costs too running the business, and also (hopefully) a profit for the business owner.

However, there are many differences in the prices dental practices charge and it’s best to understand how the charges are decided. On the following scale from least expensive to most expensive you can understand why practices charge different prices.

The image shows a comparison table with three columns — Least Expensive, Mid Price, and Most Expensive — comparing different levels of dental care across four factors

You can see from above that if you want cheap dentistry then generally you are going to be receiving dentistry from someone with little experience, using basic materials and you’ll have to wait a long time to have the treatment.

If you’d like one of the best dentists to deliver your treatment, with short waiting times and using the best materials then you’re probably going to be paying more.

How long should dental treatments last?

Again, from the table above, you’ll probably get more successful treatments in the right hand column than the left column. Amore experienced dentist with advanced training and good materials is very likely able to provide a higher standard of treatment than someone inexperienced using cheaper materials.

In the right hands a white filling can last decades, but in the wrong hands it might just last hours!
